About Allaway Acoustics

Allaway Acoustics Ltd was formed by Peter Allaway in July 1969 - the same week that Neil Armstrong first stepped onto the moon! Our original sales ledger records our first ever order as £7-7s-0d, received from Matthew Hall Ltd. So far as we know, this unbroken independence makes us the longest-surviving UK-owned acoustics company.

From the start, the company prided itself on strong technical ability; building on Peter Allaway's standing as one of the pre-eminent acousticians of his generation. Although the company today is of course unrecognisable from those early years, our reputation as a technically proficient, reliable supplier is still one of our great strengths.

The company's operations are co-ordinated from our offices in Hertford, which house our design, engineering, internal sales, contracting, and CAD departments. External sales engineers cover the entire UK, and we have an appointed agent in Ireland.

Our factory has been based in Thetford, Norfolk since the early 1970's. In more recent years, rapidly increasing workload enabled us to first extend our original factory twice, then purchase the sites across the road and next door. We now have in excess of 50,000ft2 of manufacturing space, organised into three production units, an R&D building, and a specialised joinery. This expansion can be seen on the graphic to the right. All units are comprehensively equipped with modern sheet metalworking and light engineering equipment, including a number of CNC workstations. We are justly proud of these facilities, and welcome client visits.

In addition to keeping manufacturing and engineering in-house, we employ our own site staff and drivers, and have our own delivery vehicles. This vertical integration gives us complete control of a project from inception to completion, with no reliance on external subcontractors.
